6th Annual GreenThumb Garden Recognition Awards
NYC Parks GreenThumb celebrated the 6th Annual GreenThumb Garden Recognition Awards for the year 2022 on Thursday, January 19th. It was a lovely evening where we honored and celebrated community gardeners and longtime supporters. Garden Recognition Honorees
- Greening Partner Award: Green Guerillas
This award recognizes a partner organization that went above and beyond to support GreenThumb gardens.
- Sustainability Award: Vinegar Hill Community Garden in Brooklyn
This award recognizes a community garden group leading environmental stewardship efforts in the care of their garden and the environment.
- Youth Award: Zonia Ortiz, La Isla Youth Community Garden in the Bronx
This award recognizes a community garden group that has made a significant commitment to cultivating the next generation of community gardeners.
- Landscape Design Award: Dolly's Park in Brooklyn
This award recognizes a community garden group that has made a significant contribution through an outstanding project or landscape design, including a special horticultural feature, space redesign, or creative use of native plants.
- Rookie of the Year Award: Bean Morris Garden in the Bronx
This award recognizes a community garden group that was established in the past two to three years and has made an immediate and significant impact in their community.
- Community Engagement Award: Two Coves Community Garden in Queens
This award recognizes a community garden group that has gone above and beyond to foster a deeper sense of community through collaborative partnerships, free programs and events for all ages, and other creative uses of the community garden.
- Urban Agriculture Award: ISO Student Farm in Brooklyn
This award recognizes a community garden that is growing and distributing food in or around their community to encourage healthy eating and support those in need.
- Public Art Award: Maggie's Magic Garden in Manhattan
This award recognizes a community garden group that has enhanced its neighborhood through artistic or cultural installations and activities in the garden for the benefit of the public.
- Going the Extra Mile Awards:
- West 123rd Street Community Garden Manhattan - Amboy Street Garden in Brooklyn - Jackie Rogers, The Garden by the Bay in Queens - Barbara Caporale, 6th Street & Avenue B Community Garden in Manhattan - Danny Chervoni, Friends of Brook Park Community Garden in the Bronx This
award recognizes individual garden members and garden groups across the city who implemented innovative ways to go above and beyond with their commitment to carry out impactful community-based efforts throughout 2022.
- Lifetime Achievement Award (Group): East 4th Street Community Garden in Brooklyn
This award recognizes a community garden group that has contributed significantly to furthering GreenThumb's mission and has been affiliated with GreenThumb for at least 25 years (since 1997).
- Lifetime Achievement Award (Individual): Cindy Goulder, Poplar Street Community Garden in Brooklyn
This award recognizes one individual gardener who has contributed significantly to furthering GreenThumb's mission, and has been affiliated with GreenThumb for at least 25 years (since 1997).
